After we got married, my husband, Mark, and I had a wonderful life: restaurants, coffee shops, books, spur of the moment vacations, late nights, later mornings, etc.
And then we had kids.
My kids are the best and I couldn’t ever imagine my life without them. They constantly inspire, educate, and entertain us. Raising them is a welcome challenge that continually forces me to clearly define my values and beliefs.
However, there is a reality to parenting. It is hard work that occasionally makes a stressed parent look back fondly at the self-indulgent times BEFORE KIDS.
So, one day after my son’s soccer game, a group of parents were talking about the profound changes in their lives since children. If you are a parent or know one, you know what I’m talking about.
After surveying a bunch of folks all around the United States, it turns out that my small group in Pittsburgh is not alone in occasionally reminiscing about the days BEFORE KIDS. Some people even have their own language:
BC - Before Children, California
BT - Before Tori, Ohio (8 years old)
BC - Before Chris , Pennsylvania (20 years old!)
With a little research, some legal and financial work, a resignation from my banking job of nine years, a great business partner, and a collection of wonderful suppliers, I am off and running with BEFORE KIDS…
It’s exciting to start a venture for which my kids and life are the inspiration! So join me and my company in celebrating our kids and the constant challenges in parenting.
